Presented on the occasion of the
61st International Art Exhibition—La Biennale di Venezia
On the occasion of Venice Glass Week 2026 and the Venice Art Biennale, CASA YALI presents Attunement, the second chapter of Amy Revier’s residency at CASA YALI, curated by Marina Marques. Following The Blue of Distance, the artist’s first phase of research in Venice, the exhibition unfolds a new body of work exploring the relationship between weaving, glass, and fragrance as interconnected forms of material heritage.
Attunement extends Revier’s longstanding investigation into handwoven structures into the realm of glass and archaeology. The exhibition takes inspiration from an ancient Roman glass unguentarium in the form of a bird, preserved in the collection of the Museo di Antichità di Torino, one of the rare vessels of its kind to have retained traces of its original fragrance.
Used in antiquity to contain scented oils, the object embodies a relationship between scent, care, and transition: its tail could be opened to release its contents, accompanying the deceased into the tomb while also functioning during life as a protective vessel. The gesture of opening later became associated with a symbolic passage between visible and invisible realms, allowing scent to act as a medium of connection and remembrance.
During her residency at CASA YALI, Revier developed a new series of glass works in dialogue with her textile practice. Working closely with Murano glassmakers, archaeologists, and collaborators, the artist investigates glass as a material capable of containing, transforming, and revealing histories beyond its physical presence.
Originating from a series of botanical oils conceived by Revier as a protective layer for her handwoven pieces, the fragrance is reimagined within Attunement as an invisible extension of her weaving practice. The concept development for the olfactory application was conceived by the studio 12 Butterfilies AM, with the fragrance formulation developed by Osmio76. Scent becomes a material thread connecting body, object, and environment, expanding the notion of textile beyond the visible.
